Nancy Ash, ENS/NOAA
Originally from Illinois, Ensign Ash received a bachelor's degree in Marine Science from the University of San Diego in 1996. During her undergraduate studies she worked at the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography as well as at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Ensign Ash's most recent job involved conducting fisheries research through the National Marine Fisheries Laboratory in Honolulu. She will be heading to the Miller Freeman after training.
Michael Ellis, ENS/NOAA
Ensign Ellis obtained his bachelor's degree in History and Political Science from Virginia Tech in 1985. Over the past seven years, he has worked on the NOAA Ship Whiting as a Second Assistant Engineer. Ensign Ellis has been assigned to the Townsend Cromwell.
Brad H. Fritzler, ENS/NOAA
Ensign Fritzler, from Seattle, obtained a B.S. degree in Physics from the University of Washington in 1994. For the past 4 years, he has pursued a career in aviation. Ensign Fritzler has accumulated 150 hours of flight time with a private pilot's certificate. He will be aboard the Rainier this spring.
Gretchen A. Imahori, ENS/NOAA
Ensign Imahori graduated from SUNY with a B.S. in Chemistry in 1997. During her college career, her research in capillary electrophoresis was published in the Journal of Chromatography. For the past year and a half, Ensign Imahori has been pursuing her doctorate in Chemistry at Georgetown University. She will be heading to the Whiting.
Elizabeth Jones, ENS/NOAA
Originally from Worcester, MA, Ensign Jones graduated from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1996 with a BS in Marine Safety and Environmental Protection. Over the past two years she has worked for Molten Metal Technology and the Department of Environmental Affairs at Brigham Hospital in Boston. Ensign Jones is assigned to the David Starr Jordan.
Daniel K. Karlson, ENS/NOAA
Originally from Pottstown, PA, Ensign Karlson graduated in May 1997 from the University at Buffalo with a B.S. in Geography. He has worked for the U.S. Census Bureau in the Geospatial Research and Standards Department for the past year. Ensign Karlson is assigned to the Rainier.
G. Mark Miller, ENS/NOAA
Ensign Miller graduated from Long Island University with a degree in Marine Geology. Since then, he has worked on a 125' schooner and a Russian icebreaker. Recently, Ensign Miller served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Republic of Congo. He will be aboard the Gordon Gunter in the spring.
Marc Moser, ENS/NOAA
Ensign Moser graduated from Oregon State University with a B.S. degree in Environmental Chemistry. Over the past few years, he has worked for the EPA Global Climate Change Unit and volunteered for the Peace Corps in agroforestry. Ensign Moser has been assigned to the Whiting.
Paulene Roberts, ENS/NOAA
Ensign Roberts obtained a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Alaska. She went on to obtain a Masters degree in Ocean and Coastal Studies from Louisiana State University while working with NOAA HAZMAT in long-term monitering of chemical and petroleum incidents. Ensign Roberts will be heading to the Ferrel in the spring.
Sarah Scherer, ENS/NOAA
Originally from Texas, Ensign Scherer obtained a B.S. in Marine Science from Texas A&M University. Over the past few years, she has sailed on various vessels ranging from small ferries to T-AGOS class ships. Ensign Scherer holds an Unlimited Tonnage Third Mates License. She is currently aboard the Miller Freeman as the 4th Officer/Navigator.
Kevin Slover, ENS/NOAA
Ensign Slover received a B.S. in meteorology from North Carolina State University in 1998. During his college career, he has done extensive research on both nor'easters and hurricanes. Ensign Slover will be heading to the Rude in the spring.
A. Jesse Stark, ENS/NOAA
Born in Port Angeles, Washington, Ensign Stark received a B.S. in Resource Conservation from the University of Montana in 1997. During his college career, he worked as a deckhand on a vehicle-passenger ferry. In 1998, Ensign Stark worked as an Able-Seaman aboard the NOAA Ship Rainier. He has been assigned to the Oregon II.
Angie J. Venturato, ENS/NOAA
Raised in Michigan, Ensign Venturato received her B.S.E. in Meteorology from the University of Michigan in 1997. During her college career, Ensign Venturato was published in Michigan in Space for her research into hydrology of the Great Lakes Drainage Basin. Over the past two years, she has worked as a Senior Software Engineer for Fry Multimedia in Michigan. Ensign Venturato will be heading to the Rainier this spring.
David J. Zezula, ENS/NOAA
Originally from White Lake, Michigan, Ensign Zezula spent six years in the Navy as a nuclear machinist. He then obtained a B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1995. For the past two years, Ensign Zezula has worked as a compliance engineer for Envirocare in Utah. He has been assigned to the Albatross IV.
